This morning, 16 January 2016, a group of 5 Islamist terrorist affiliated with al Qaeda in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso (a country in West of Africa) has reportedly killed 20 people at the Splendid Hotel which is a popular destination for westerners and staff of the United Nations . According to the SITE intelligence group, al Qaeda of Islamic Maghreb has claimed responsibility for this deadly attack. At a point, there were several cars on fire outside the hotel, an intense gunfire between military officials and the gunmen and about 15 hostages have now been freed by security forces.

Burkina Faso, a largely Muslim country, swore in Roch Marc Christian Kabore as new president last month, after overthrowing its longtime ruler Blaise Compaore.
