In North America and Europe, it is relatively easy for an average person to start a small business with little capital and just a tiny resource requirement. Although the business may/will be inundated with laws, regulations and policies, the fact remains the process of actually starting the business and running it can be relatively less daunting when compared to other developing nations.
In Africa, however, the reverse is the case. We have limited small business regulations but little or no resources (energy, transportation, government support e.t.c) and capital for budding entrepreneurs.
So we at BLULOFT are making it our obligation to bring our fans all the resources we can find online, on ground, any where – be it strategic, financial, physical, or networking. Afterall, our goal is striving working towards a better AFRICA.
Over the next few months, we will be highlighting several businesses that require little to no capital – although talent may be required for some. Remember, it takes motivation, tenacity and faith to succeed; Prudence, susceptibility to change and vigilance to sustain your business’ existence and growth
So without further ado, here we go.
5 Home Businesses to start in Africa with little or no Capital:
CLEANING SERVICE.
This business can be run in so many ways but a narrowed focus on either private clients or commercial clients is the key to getting off ground. Of course, as it is with any other business, networking or knowing people is always the key to success. If you already have contacts with people who operate or own commercial properties or people with large homes, why not start from there and provide them with a service they never thought they’d need?
INTERIOR DECORATOR. Experience, training or licensing may be needed.
As with the previous business idea, if you already know people especially middle class or high income earners, then this may work.
The alternative strategy is to talk to builders and or contractors of ongoing projects. If you have no previous experience and little to no money, you can jump-start this career by doing any of the actions below.
- Following tons of interior decorating firms on social media like Architectural Digest, HGTV or HOUZZ (need more info? email us at info@bluloft.com).
- watch YOUTUBE Videos – Just go to YouTube and do a search on interior Décor
- Filter your media interests on PINTEREST and INSTAGRAM.
- Follow us here at BLULOFT, we will also be publishing articles on interior decors.
- Invest in Western Interior Décor Magazines !!! We really can’t say enough of this especially if you have relatives in Europe or North America. For example, Ikea Magazines are free at their stores and will give you great decorating ideas
Remember, with interior decor, a client’s obscure preferences has to be interpreted into tangible designs.
JEWELRY MAKING. Experience, training or licensing may be needed.
If you’re thinking this is not a profitable business you can run, think again! With many
eCommerce platforms catering to a Global population, all you need is great looking jewelry, great pictures and an awesome customer service. If you go this route, the key to success is to:
- Choose your target market,
- Confirm shipping options available in your country,
- Make sure you are consistent with your product’s quality and above all,
- Strive to have great customer service. (This can make or break your business especially if your target market is North America or Europe).
- Below are some global eCommerce platforms you can sell your products on. Remember you can also list it with local eCommerce platforms – for example, JUMAI in Nigeria.
- AMAZON
- ARTFIRE
- ETSY
- ASOS MARKETPLACE
- Better yet, create your website using SHOPIFY & PAYPAL.
PERSONAL TRAINER. Experience, training or licensing may be needed.
No huge explanation here. If you are fit and think you can help someone get fit, this is for you. Tout your services using word of mouth, Facebook, Instagram and SNAPCHAT and watch your responses grow exponentially.
DOG BREEDER. Experience, training, or licensing may be needed.
This right here is a no-brainer. Breed great dogs and great customers will follow; do otherwise and your customers will fall like flies in an insecticide room. As indicated above you will need to get educated on the breeds of dogs in demand, what cross-breeding is and what the commanding prices are for breeds.
As always, thank you for being a fan and don’t forget to share this with your friends on Social media!
